Too busy to do things I would do :(

I feel like I haven't used the Internet for ages. Yeah, I'm busy studying. Can you believe this?! I am STUDYNG now, finally! I realized it's time to stop chilling out. I have only roughly 40 days left before the exam, but I'm not that good enough to get a good score I want.

Hm, come to think of it, I've never been lazy but I don't remember what I've done up to now. It's funny, isn't it? I need to figure it out!

Four weddings and a funeral

Although this type of books is not my cup of tea, I didn't want to refuse my lovely friend's recommendation. She said it was easy to read it, and she was absolutely right.
Four weddings and a funeral made into a movie first, then the book was published probably because of the popularity of the movie. You'll see everything is exactly the same in the movie as the book describes.

If you're learning English and it's pretty hard to watch an English movie without subtitles (like me), I highly recommend this book before you watch the movie. It'll definitely help you to understand what's going on and what they're talking about.

Anyway, somehow I enjoyed reading it. I could read it quite quickly last Sunday morning, then I saw the movie as well :)


.......However, I won't choose this kind of books again unless somebody recommends it.

I think an original version is always far better, whatever it's a book or a movie.
I mean, the movie was fairly fun, but the book was not really good as much as the movie was. Perhaps, there was something that shouldn't have been in the book, but only in the movie.

Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

If you have strong feelings, is it better to express them, eagerly and passionately, to the whole world? Is it wise? And if you always show the world a calm face and a quiet voice, does this mean there is no passion, no fire in your heart?
Sometimes the Dashwood girls do not seem like sisters. Elinor is all calmness and reason, and can be relied upon for practical, common sense opinions. Marianne, on the other hand, is all sensibility, full of passionate and romantic feeling.
Hope of marriage disappear, guilty secrets come to light, hearts are broken, but which sister feels it more? Calm and sensible Elinor, smiling bravely and saying not a word - or romantic Marianne, sobbing wildly and passionately all night long...

I've been still reading it and I have only few pages left :) I was supposed to watch a movie 'Sense and Sensibility 1995' after this book, but I wasn't able to find it on the Internet. Hm, it's OK. I have tons of things to do execpt for that!

What made me suprized is there are so many common things in her novels. I felt like I was reading the parody of 'Pride and Prejudice'. I wonder whether that's becuase it was written in Jane Austen's style or these kinds of happenings were quite common in those days.

OK, let me show some things in common I found out in her novels.

1. The main charactors were two oldest girls, looking for their perfect husbands, among their sisters.
2. The older sister met a man first but soon she was hurt from their relationship.
3. The younger sister met the first so-and-so who was very agreeable and handsome but there was the second so-and-so who was very rich and liked her.
4. The first so-and-so actually had had an affair with a girl who was related to another so-and-so.
5. So the younger sister was really disappointed in the first so-and-so.
6. In the end, the old sister married the man who had broken with her once.
7. The younger sister fell in love with the second so-and-so and married him.
8. All of them lived happily ever after except for the first so-and-so.
9. Inharitance is one of the important topic in the novel. Oh, a large fortune as well!

Perhaps, I can write more than 20 things!

Anyway, it was interesting to see what those people thought the most important thing was, how their manners and life style were, how they spoke with rather old-fashioned words, or somthing classical English in the book.

And I like this title, Sense and Sensibility :D It goes well with the story!

Irish weather

It was the first time that I listened to the raidio in the morning in Ireland. There was a lot of traffic, so I needed something to do on the bus. Just at that moment, a weather forecast started.

"It will be sunny and warm today" (Me:  :D)
"Then a shower, then cloudy, then windy, then cold, then......."

I suddenly understood why my Irish teachers told me that we don't need a weather forecast. I should prepare an umbrella, a wellies, a coat, a bikini or something like that all the time for the unexpectable weather in Ireland!

Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth noticed Mr Darcy's pride, his sense of superiority, and his selfish disdain for the feelings of others at first sight, but it was her prejudice against him. When she realized she was wrong, something was chainging in her feelings toward him.


It's my first English book to finish reading, perhaps. I couldn't take my eyes off! Especially, I liked to see how Elizabeth's mind and feelings changed as time went by. That's why I couldn't help watching the movie 'Pride and Prejudice 2005' after the book. Although I've already watched it in the theater before, I felt like I was watching a totally new movie! I remember having no impression about the movie at first, but it's different now :)
'Prejudice' is a popular topic these days, but I was surprised to hear that it was written 200 years ago. What people thought and felt a long time ago may be the same as present people do.
 
I'll read Jane Austen's other novels while I can :D

Something I'm afraid of!

I think I'm a brave girl, but I have a few things that I'm afraid of.

1. I've been extremely scared of barking big dogs since I was young.
My mind goes blank in front of them and I can't help screaming. Actually, I've never been bitten by a dog! Why am I afraid of them? I don't know the reason at all.

2. I've recently noticed that I'm afraid of lifelike mannequins.
Even though I remember crying not to enter a museum full of mannequins in my childhood (As I remember, the museum was about Lee Soonshin, one of the greatest genders in Korea, and the Turtle ship), I hadn't realized I'm afraid of them. No matter when I see them, I think they seem to be alive. What makes me afraid of them most is they look like they'll move and scare me!
Yea, you know what, I screamed at mannequins in a museum in Cobh a few month ago. It was a shame :(

3. I'm afraid of............speaking on the phone.
I feel nervous when I call somebody or answer a phone call. It's crazy, I know.

What I wanted to be when I was a child.

When I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher in primary school. To me, it seemed to be the most interesting job in the world. There were lots of reasons.

Firstly, a teacher uses a blackboard with colored chalk whenever they want.
We were not allowed to write or draw something with chalk on the blackboard during breaktime. That's why I was very happy when I wrote an answer on the blackboard in class.

Secondly, teachers have summer vacation and a long winter vacation.
Unlike my father, all teachers only work during a semester and they have a long vacation. I thought it would be great if I didn't work and still got a salary from the school.

Thirdly, a teacher gets tons of presents on Teachers' Day.
It might be the most important reason why I wanted to be a teacher. I saw a pile of presents on a teacher's desk every Teachers' Day. I always envied teachers especially on that day!

As I grew up, I realized how difficult controlling children was and that I would love to do a more dynamic job than teaching. For those reasons, I don't want to be a teacher any more. I haven't found out what I want to be, what I'd like to do and what I'm good at yet. I'm still looking for the answers!

Why am I learning English?

English was the worst subject ever in my life. I just started to study it for an exam in highschool.
Nevetheless, now I'm learing English for fun. Learing English itself is one of the most interesting things to me.

As I studied it, I found thousands of advantages of speaking English fluently.
I can communicate with people from diverse cultures if I speak English and it's much more fun than I had expected. Moreover, I can have more job opportunities if I'm good at English.
Hm... frankly, I don't know why I'm learning it now although I know many good reasons.

I'm just doing it for fun.
Or perhaps all of those reasons make me want to learn it.

The Only problem is that I have too long way to go..!

My first New Year's Day in Ireland

I came back to Ireland from Korea on December 31st at night. It took more than 15 hours, including the waiting time.
However, all buses were finished earlier than usual for the reason that that day was New Year's Eve. To make matters worse, I didn't have enough cash to pay for a taxi (Damn it! I had only Korean Won, not Euro!) and I had run out of the battery of my mobile phone.
There was no choice. I had to spend my first Irish New Year's Eve in the airport. What a wonderful celebration for 2011!

I was able to get to my place the following day. I was extremely tired and had jet lag. Pity on myself!
I slept in the daytime, because I was exhausted and it was night in Korea. I also slept at night time, because it was night in Ireland.
I mean the only thing I did on New Year's Day was just sleep.

My New Year's resolution? haha There isn't such a thing this year! I'll just do my best for everything as I did last year.
